There’s a nostalgia for old wrestling games these days. Specifically, the title we see most fans mention is WWF: No Mercy on the N64 – who didn’t own that one in the noughties? – but also the likes of WWF: SmackDown for PS1 are considered legendary today. Japanese developer Yuke’s, fresh from being kicked off the WWE 2K franchise, is aiming to capture that classic THQ feel with AEW: Fight Forever, then – and y’know what, it may be onto something!
Look, this is clearly not going to be the prettiest, most polished arcade sports game on the PS5 and PS4, but it’s certainly got an early 2000s charm to it. This gameplay trailer leans heavily on the “pick up and play” aspect, and also shows some of the shenanigans you can get up to in the ring, such as riding skateboards and throwing footballs in foes’ faces. There are also seemingly a ton of ridiculous weapons, including fire extinguishers and much more.
With a full create-a-wrestler career mode and a bunch of minigames, this title definitely has Multitap energy, doesn’t it? The question is: are you nostalgic for this specific style of jank? Throw it down in the comments section below.

This could be a pretty good wrestling game, I want to know the full roster.
Winner "best sports game Gamescom 2022" with NO release date ... ok then.
Can't wait for this, despite being a Sony Pony (without the hostility) my favourite console, pound for pound is probably still the N64.
A big part in that is played by Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy, two of my favourite games ever despite No Mercy having a progress deleting bug which meant you had to return the cartridge and wait for a new one!
Haven't watched much AEW (or really any wrestling at all) recently, but still pumped.
Honestly I’m totally down for this.
I don’t mind the 2K games for WWE so will be nice to have an arcade feeling alternative
Never watched any AEW ever but Here Comes The Pain and No Mercy are so good that I’d be up for anything similar. I do recognise Chris Jericho though!
AEW is great and I trust Kenny Omega's vision for this game, that he's always been transparent about. This will be a great couch co-op game just like most wrestling games.
If this played like Wrestlemania 2000 or No Mercy I’d be all over this.
It looks brilliant to be fair. Graphics could probably be better and I hope there are no online trophies, but bar that, I'm looking forward to it.
I really hope this can bring back the feeling of no mercy while also being modern times amazing
I'm down. Here Comes the Pain is the standard IMO and it has those vibes. Can't wait.
Cannot wait, though I really hope the switch version is good. 🤞
Optimistic for this! No Mercy still better than any wrestling game since. The WWE games these past few years have been atrocious.
This game could be fun but I recall reports claiming Kenny Omega hates working with Yukes. Wonder if this is affecting the development of the game
As for DLC they could add cage matches like "Blood and Guts" which is their version of "War Games".
